Congratulations LM!!

Wow!! What a concert LM!! You worked hard and learned your song, dance moves, lyrics, and lines. Some of the songs were really difficult and you rose to the challenge to learn them and not one person gave up! What an amazing group of students we have here. You should all be very proud and have made some pretty awesome memories along the way! I would like to personally wish you all a very happy holiday. Rest up and be safe!!

Videos for Practice!!

You Tube is the best!! The kids have always wanted the music to practice at home but it was impossible to make a copy for everyone. Now with You tube everyone is able to do that as long as there is a video for it. In most cases now, there is!! So Grade 3-5, here they are!!!

Heal the World

I wanted to show the choir students this week how amazing I think they are. I showed them a video of children performing "Heal the World" written by Michael Jackson. The children in the video are all musicians and I wanted the choir to know they are too. They all work so hard to become the best singers they can be and many can play other instruments as well as they saw featured in the video. Combined with the beautiful message, the students absolutely loved it and asked that I put it up here on the blog so they can show their parents. They also wanted it so they can watch it over and over again because many of them were very inspired!!

Peter and the Wolf

The Grade 3 and 2-3 classes are learning about "Peter and the Wolf" in music class. It is a wonderful Russian story set to the music of Sergei Prokofiev. I have been patiently waiting a few years for the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra to perform this music and I was pleasantly surprised that it is going to happen on November 27th in the evening! If you are interested in taking your child, I have attached the link below for the WSO for more information. They would love it! https://wso.ca/peterandthewolf/

Song of Peace

The Grade 3-5 Choir is preparing to sing at the Remembrance Day Assembly next month. They will be singing "A Song of Peace" by Teresa Jennings. Attached is a video for the students to sing along to so they can practice. There will be solo auditions for the first part and last line of the song coming up in the next week. The students absolutely love this song and it really shows when they sing it. Their faces light up, their posture changes and their voices soar. I hope you can join us at the assembly in November. The date will be posted soon. Enjoy!

The Grade 3-5 Choir will be singing this song at the Canada Day Assembly this year. They really wanted this video up so they could practice!

The Lion King

After countless hours of practicing we performed the Lion King to a sold out crowd at the gas station theatre last night. It was breathtakingly beautiful thanks to the efforts of our fabulous art directors. The acting, costumes, make up and singing will be never forgotten and the smiles and impact we made will stay with us forever. Thank You to all the students and staff who participated and made this musical so amazing. Thank You to Mr. Farough and Mr. Swintak for their vision in making this the best it could be! BRAVO Everyone!

What a Wonderful World

For Earth Day, the Grade 2 students learned how to sing "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong. They described what they loved most about the world we live in with such detail so I thought we would create some artwork while listening to the song and our teacher candidate Ms. Blanchette put our artwork in an Animoto for us to enjoy! First video is 2JR and the second is 2J.

I Knew You Were Treble

The Grade 3's and 2/3 classes have been learning music theory for the past couple of weeks to prepare for playing the recorder. We are practicing naming the notes on the treble clef staff and will be trying as many ways as possible to do this. Note Name Battleship, Theory Booklets, Smartboard Games, IPad Games and even relay games outside! This week we found an awesome video that is helping lots of kids learn the note names through a song. Some of them wanted a link to it so here it is!!
